Chicken and the Egg

Last night I was out with some friends and the question came up as to which came first, the chicken or the egg.

A few people were saying that the egg couldn't exist without the chicken being there to lay the egg. Someone else said that god put the chicken on earth, and I responded by saying "How do you know that god didn't put the egg on earth."

My argument is: A chicken, by definition comes from an egg, therefore the first chicken must have come from an egg.

Another way to argue that the egg came first is to say that animals reproduced with eggs before chickens existed, therefore eggs came before chickens.
