"Don't forget, if you ever need me I'm only a vodka away from you"
Alex Day (Don't Look Back)

Parrot Stories is the debut album from Alex Day (also known as nerimon). The cover features a cartoon parrot with a leather jacket singing into a microphone. The name comes from a quote from "A Streetcar Named Desire" when a character says "Stanley, tell us a joke, tell us a funny story to make us all laugh... I love parrot stories! Do you all like parrot stories?"

The track list is
1) A Thousand Hours
2) Hearts
3) No More
4) Holding On
5) Candy Floss
6) What You Do
7) No Sacrifice
8) Impossible Dreams
9) Sicily
10) How We Were
11) Don't Look Back

Starting out we have A Thousand Hours, which is one of the faster songs, and one of my favorites This song was also covered by Dr. Noise. Next up is Hearts, a duet featuring Lex (tyrannosauruslexxx). It has a nice upbeat feeling to it and it's the kind of song that easily gets stuck in your head.

Third up is No More, which has a sadder feeling to it. It has one of the best lines on the CD with "Don't forget, if you ever need me I'm only a vodka away from you", but the one thing I don't really like is the instrumental section after the line "Sleep under the stars". I initially heard this song as a demo on Youtube and and had gotten used to the way it was played there. Despite this I still think this is a really great song.

Fourth is Holding On which also features Tom Milsom on backing vocals. Despite how cheerful the song might sound, the lyrics are kinda sad, about how the boy is holding on and hoping the girl would feel the same way he does. Next we have Candy Floss (which is called cotton candy in North America) which features ukulele.

After Candy Floss is What You Do. I'm not particularly fond of the the arrangement at the start of the song but right after the chorus when the guitar kicks in I think it helps to balance out the other instruments. The lyrics are great and this is also one of my favorites. Next we jump into No Sacrifice which has a kinda rock feel to it. Followed by Impossible Dreams, another of the more sad feeling songs.

At number ten we have Sicily. I really like the arrangement of this song with the acoustic guitar, accented with the electric with a kind of echo effect. The vocals also add another level of depth to the song. How We Were is next and is possibly my favorite song on the CD. The verses mainly feature bass and vocals with guitar coming in during the pre-chorus and building up to the chorus with the drums joining in.

Next is Don't Look Back which was featured as a demo on DFBTA Records Vol. 1 compilation. The lyrics are poetic and accompanied by ukelele in a slow song.

Last but not least, is by far the best track on the entire album (hidden track on the physical CD). This is the kind of track that makes your whole $12 worth it.

Overall I would rate Parrot Stories at about 4/5. It has a variety of musical styles and is the kind of album you can listen to any time.
